GIS Project Fair 2017
November 22, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Hello Everyone. It is that time of year again to get those “no time” and “no funding” GIS project completed free by a RRC Advanced Diploma GIS Technology student.
The Geographic Information Systems faculty at Red River College is currently organizing a GIS Project Fair to be held at Red River College. The purpose of the fair is to link our Advanced Diploma GIS Technology students with partners in industry, academics, and government for a free 160-hour GIS project from January to April 2018. The students will design, implement, and execute a GIS project free of charge for that period to gain experience and hone their skills. Here is that opportunity to get that GIS project completed for which you do not have staff or funding to complete yourself.
The GIS Project Fair is scheduled for November 22, 2017 Wednesday from 1:30-4:30 pm at the Notre Dame Campus, in the Lecture Hall (A4-06) of Building A. Students will be working on their GIS project from January to April 2018 in their final semester of the school year.
The Project Fair is an opportunity for your organization to learn about the GIS program, evaluate students, and offer students GIS work experience while fulfilling GIS tasks or projects within your organization.
The deliverables of the project are a project proposal, formal report, a GIS map / poster, and enhanced digital files. The scope of the project should be constrained to an achievable 160-hour timeframe with sufficient analysis content to warrant an advanced application of GIS.
Potential Partners are asked to give a brief presentation outlining a specific project(s) (2-5 minutes) that they would be interested in conducting. Potential partners may also provide, if they wish, a one-page handout outlining a prospective project(s). This is followed by a meet-and-greet session where students can approach partners to find out more information about a potential project or to express interest in their project. If you are interested and unable to attend the GIS Project Fair, please forward your potential project to us so we can pass along your project ideas directly to students. Please feel free to forward this invitation on to a colleague who may be interested in providing a project for our GIS project fair. Parking can be provided if you RSVP me by 4:00PM Monday, November 20th.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.
If you are a new contact, could you please forward your contact information to email@example.com (including your mailing address, designation, company info etc.) so that we can enter your information in our database of prospective partners? You can also RSVP us by e-mail by 4:00PM Monday, November 20th to indicate if you will be attending or not, if you will have a project or not and if you will require parking. If you do not wish to be contacted in the future, please respond and let us know.
