Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba drivers licence and ability to travel as required.


  • Post-secondary education related to GIS techniques and methods. A combination of related education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience creating user-friendly computer programs to automate tasks related to data processing using Python, C++, Java, VBA, MATLAB, etc.
  • Experience with data analysis pertaining to climate and/or hydrometric data. Processing large datasets, generating statistics and reports, and interpreting results.
  • Experience managing quality control processes and data standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships.
  • Effective written communication skills with experience writing clear, concise documents and reports.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while abiding to tight deadlines.

As a member of the Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre within the Hydrologic Forecasting and Coordination Branch, the incumbent will be assigned responsibility for the planning, updating and maintenance of databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) related to hydrometric and meteorological data. This position will assist the flood forecasting effort through a variety of daily tasks which will require an advanced skill set and knowledge of various aspects of computer programming, GIS analysis and mapping.
